Greek Yogurt. Yum!

The other day I decided to spend some quality time with my mom by going grocery shopping with her. While we were there, she started talking about how much she loves Greek yogurt. When she found out I had never tried it before, she immediately went and bought me some. We ate it in the car on the ride home, and I’ve got to say that it’s one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten! It’s a little rich, so you can’t inhale it in 30 seconds like you can regular yogurt. But oh my goodness, it’s tasty! And it fills you up too! I think it’d make a great breakfast item :) Anyways, not only is Greek yogurt really yummy, but it also packs a powerful nutritional punch too.

Did you know that Greek Yogurt is packed with protein? Yup! 6 oz. of it has the same amount of protein as 2-3 oz. of lean meat (15-20 g). That’s 20-25% of your daily protein needs. Good gravy, that’s awesome! I hear that vegetarians especially like Greek yogurt because it has so much protein.

Of course, Greek yogurt also has a lot of calcium in it. A 6 oz. serving of this tasty treat has about 20% of the recommended intakes (2,000 calorie diet). Compared to milk, which contains 29% in an 8 oz. serving, Greek yogurt is pretty close.

There is only one bad thing about Greek yogurt: fat. 1 serving contains 16g of saturated fat, which is 80% of a 2000 calorie diet. However, there are low-fat options available, so I’d definitely go with those. I can’t find anything wrong with them!

Another great thing about Greek yogurt, in comparison to regular yogurt, is sugar and sodium content. When refining regular yogurt into Greek yogurt, some of the sugar and sodium are lost, making low-fat Greek yogurt an excellent choice for dieters.

All in all, Greek yogurt sounds fantastic because it IS fantastic. I think I have a new treat :)
