Clean Your Room. It’s good for you!!!

Haha, how many times have we heard that one while growing up? I know I have, at least the first part anyways. But I was just thinking about how much of a workout cleaning is sometimes! Think about it. You spend all that time bending over, lifting things, and generally moving around. So after thinking about this, I decided to find out just how healthy cleaning really is.

First off, the dreaded dishes. I thought I’d get these out of the way quick, because I’m feeling glum just from hearing the word! It turns out doing 1 hour of dishes burns about 75 calories. It looks like you worked off your afternoon snack just from cleaning it up!

What about picking up your kids’ toys? Well, assuming that you stand the entire time, it’s about 120 calories per hour.

Next is vacuuming. With this chore, you burn a whopping 238 calories an hour!!! So basically, if you vacuum the house everyday -let’s say it takes 30 minutes- then you’ll burn about 830 calories a week, plus you’ll have nice clean carpets. I’d say that’s utterly fantastic!!!

Did you know sweeping is great too? You burn about 235 calories for 1 hour of sweeping.

Now, when it comes to scrubbing, you will be amazed. You burn over 250 calories an hour! I guess scrubbing the floors and walls really does make a difference.

But what about yard work? Well, that one is quite exhausting. It burns 357 calories an hour! That one definitely takes the cake :)

Well, I guess that about wraps it up! I know I didn’t cover every single chore out there, but these are the basics, and I think they are enough to cheer up anyone who’s feeling blue about housework. Have fun cleaning AND losing weight at the same time!!!
